WoW's first expansion, the Burning Crusade, released on January 15, 2007. This expansion introduced the player to the Outlands, a land accessed by crossing into the Dark Portal. The level cap was raised from 60 to 70, and Blizzard introduced several major components to the game. Flying mounts, neutral cities, and two new playable races (the Draenei and the Blood Elves) were major additions to the core formula. Additionally, new and challenging bosses were added, with the final confrontation being an epic battle against the much storied Illidan Stormrage, The Betrayer.
